Bed & Breakfast Duncan/Etzkorn Bruce Goff Castle Bed and Breakfast

Duncan/Etzkorn Bruce Goff Castle Bed and Breakfast

There is much to say about the Duncan/Etzkorn Bruce Goff Castle Bed & Breakfast. Located outside of Cobden, IL, this is not your typical B & B. This creative masterpiece was built by reknowned American architect Bruce Goff (1904 – 1982) in 1965 as a home for the late Hugh Duncan, a sociology professor at Southern Illinois University.
Anyone with an interest in architecture and/or history would and surely find an overnight stay in this American gem to be a fascinating experience. The Bed and Breakfast can accommodate up to six guests, but may be best suited for groups of two. The design of the castle includes very few doors and requires a certain level of comfort and cooperation among guests. For this reason, visitors of the castle may choose a room to occupy and expect the others to remain unrented for the duration of their stay. The innkeeper lives on site to keep the castle running properly and cares for guests needs. See Duncan/Etzkorn Bruce Goff Castle Bed & Breakfast for rates and reservations.
The castle was constructed to mirror the natural surroundings, making use of over 600 tons of local sand stone creek-bed rocks. The name Etzkorn was adhered to the Castle as a tribute to Carol Etzkorn, the "Castle Queen," who became the third owner of the property and rescued it from disrepair. Carol, a horticulturist and nature-lover, made it her life's mission to restore the Castle. Upon her death from cancer in 2001, her brother, an artist living in Minnesota, moved into the Castle to resume the relentless task of restoring the structure to its original glory.
